Shore Up offers free tax prep assistance for qualified residents
SALISBURY, Md. – Tax season is upon us and many Delmarvans are feeling the stress of filing before the April deadline. Shore Up is offering a program to help and it won’t cost you a dime.
“It’s completely free of charge we do not have any fees that we charge individuals who want help with their taxes we just do that for them and make sure they get the biggest refund they can,” says Julie Peters, Chief Communications Officer for Shore Up.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is better known as VITA. Households earning less than $64,000 a year will qualify for the program. If you are interested in participating all you have to do is call Shore Up and ask for income tax assistance.
Volunteers are trained to help you file your taxes and spot all available tax credits. Plus if you are behind on your taxes and haven’t filed in years past they can also help you get caught up. This free assistance is all a part of their mission of serving low-income and disadvantaged people on the Eastern Shore.
“Shore Up is a community action agency which was born out of the war on poverty back in the 1960s. So our whole purpose is for giving individuals the assistance that they need so that they can be more self sufficient and not be so burdened by a low income and high expenses of living,” says Peters.
If you are interested in getting an appointment for the volunteer income tax assistance program just call 410-749-1142. Shore Up is also welcoming volunteers who would like to be trained to help others as well.
