Law enforcement, emergency services assessing damage in Dorchester County following recent storm
DORCHESTER COUNTY, Md.- Tuesday night’s storm that hit several parts of Delmarva left many areas covered in water. Wednesday, law enforcement and emergency services personnel in Dorchester County are now assessing the damage. “Over the past 24 hours we’ve experienced high winds, significant volumes of rain, and flooding in the low-lying areas of the county,” Lt. Benton said.
Lieutenant Keith Benton with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office said that created the ‘perfect storm’ for a situation they’re now left picking up the pieces from. “We’ve got some damage which includes trees, power lines, and minor property damage. We’re still trying to get estimates,” Lt. Benton said.
Lt. Benson anticipates low-lying parts of the county to continue experiencing moderate flooding over the next 12-24 hours. As far as recovery efforts, he told us that plans are now in motion. “We’ll do an assessment probably after the next 24 hours and determine what damages will be the highest priority,” he said.
The damage the county did experience was minor in comparison to previous storms, which Lt. Benton credits to their strong storm preparation efforts. “We partner with our county roads with heavy equipment operators that are able to get out immediately,” Lt. Benton said.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor roadways to keep them clear. They also told us that they didn’t receive any calls relating to injuries or other related incidents.
Lt. Benton also told 47ABC he advises residents that do not need to travel to stay home. If you’ve experienced any damage or spot potential hazards, you’re asked to call their office at (410)-228-4141.
