Good Morning Delmarva discusses the retirement reception for Freddy L. Mitchell
47ABC – Recently, SHORE UP!, Inc. has had a change in leadership.
Mr. Freddy Mitchell, who was Executive Director for over 50 years, has passed down the role to Dr. Tyrone Chase.
On January 11th, you’re invited to attend a reception for Mr. Mitchell in honor of his retirement. The event will be from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Julie Peters, the Chief Communications Officer, says the event is meant to show Mr. Mitchell how much they appreciate what he’s done for the organization.
She tells us Mr. Mitchell started as the Head Start Director in 1969 and became Executive Director a few years later.
Under his leadership, they’ve grown tremendously and went from servicing two counties to over nine.
Plus, they implemented new programs on welfare reform.
Peters says the pandemic was challenging for the agency, but with Mr. Mitchell’s guidance, they figured out how to provide to the youth during the lockdown.
Dr. Chase, the new Executive Director, has been with Shore Up for over 30 years and was a part of the Shore Housing Resource board. So, he is very familiar with the organization’s work and involvement in the community.
Peters says Dr. Chase is committed to serving the community. He values education and is trying to find ways to help those at risk.
Again, the reception will be January 11th from 2 pm to 5 pm. It is open house style, so you can stop by any time during that period and celebrate this new chapter in Mr. Mitchell’s life.
