DSP investigating serious crash in Rehoboth
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that sent one man to the hospital with serious injuries late Friday night.
According to police, the incident happened around 10:54 PM near Coastal Highway and Miller Road.
Police say a 48-year-old man was driving a truck tractor southbound on Coastal Highway approaching the intersection of Miller Road. That is when a 63-year-old man, of Lewes driving a pickup truck entered into the intersection and directly into the path of the truck tractor, causing a collision.
The 48-year-old was not able to avoid a collision and hit the left side of the pickup truck, according to police. The pickup truck then rotated clockwise and came to an uncontrolled stop on the sidewalk along the west edge of the highway.
Alcohol or drugs are not a factor at this time, according to police.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
The 63-year-old man was taken to Beebe Medical Center where he was treated for serious injuries and was later taken to Christiana Hospital.
Two southbound lanes of Coastal Highway were closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
This crash remains under investigation.
