Older driver safety awareness week from December 4th to 8th
MARYLAND – Older drivers and their families are being urged to think safety this week as the Maryland Department of Transportation and MVA mark older driver safety awareness week.
Between December 4th and 8th, MDOT and MVA aims to empower those who can drive safely to continue doing so.
MDOT and MVA administrator Chrissy Nizer says there are a few thing stop and consider when driving as a senior, including medical conditions, that may impair your mobility and eye sight health.
“It is really individual and not age based, and also I want to say that it is a hard conversation to have, both for that individual that is stopping driving or considering do that as well as for the family.”
Nizer says when the time comes to turn in your driver’s license, it’s important for seniors to look for other safe forms of transportation.
She recommends looking to public transit or a relative or neighbor that would be willing to carpool.
