‘Shore Gives More’ campaign sees largest number of participating nonprofits this Giving Tuesday

DELMARVA – “So it’s not only a day of just fundraising for us, but also definitely a day and a whole season for friend-raising. It’s really a great way for us to make those connections in the community” The Cricket Center Executive Director Lauren Cooper said.

The Cricket Center is the child advocacy network in Worcester County and one of the nonprofits apart of the 2023 Shore Gives More campaign this Giving Tuesday. “With those relationships with our donors, we’re able to sustain long-term because child abuse isn’t going anywhere. Unfortunately, we see those number continue to rise,” Cooper said.

The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore spearheads the local initiative. The 24-hour online campaign allows donors to roam and learn about various organizations serving Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties. “We make sure that all the participating organizations are in good standing with the IRS and the State of Maryland. You will know that your gifts are going to an actual nonprofit and that those gifts are serving our local community,” CFES Marketing Officer Victoria Kent said.

“Each profile has a little bit about their mission, the work that they’re doing, and their needs.”

Cooper said that the funds raised will go to support their community outreach efforts and their new satellite facility in Pocomoke City. “Our forensic interviewers need the proper equipment to record the child sharing their experience. Our law enforcement officers also need specialized training equipment to be able analyzing phones for crimes that take place over the internet,” she said.

Kent told 47ABC that a record breaking 128 nonprofits are participating in this year campaign, showing the community is excited about the good work going on right in their own backyards. “Nonprofits in the lower shower really serve a ton of critical needs that without them we would be lacking a lot of local services,” she said.

Cooper said those donations will allow them to do more. “The work that we’re doing now is going to be saving children’s lives, making them grow up to be productive, and hopefully allowing them to give back to their communities,” Cooper said.

Organizers want to remind you that you can donate as little or as much as you want to as many organizations you like.

The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore said this event is also the perfect opportunity for individuals to get connected to causes and organizations that they may not be aware of.
