City of Salisbury discussing zoning for marijuana growth and sale

SALISBURY, Md. – The city of Salisbury is figuring out how they will zone marijuana dispensaries and grow operations considering commercial and light industrial zones.

City Administrator Andy Kitzrow says the growing and cultivation of marijuana will remain restricted to the light industrial areas. That would include the northern part of town where other factories and plants currently are. Individuals who will be seeking a license to grow or sell marijuana must come before a council and planning commission in order to get their permit or license approved.

“We are looking at two to three dispensaries hopefully within this first round of applicants for licenses to be in Salisbury,” Kitzrow said. “November and December is when applications will be going through, and the next round of licenses will be distributed next year.”

Kitzrow says the city plans on following the state guidelines on proximity for grow sites or dispensaries to schools, places of worship or public parks.
