Georgetown Police arrest Milton woman for leaving infant unattended in a vehicle
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Georgetown Police arrested a Milton woman on Tuesday after they received a report of a child left unattended in a vehicle.
Police were called to respond to the Walmart parking lot for reports of a small child in a vehicle by themselves. On arrival, officers found a small infant in the back seat of a Honda Pilot in the parking lot. The vehicle was unlocked, allowing police to get to the infant, who was determined to be in good health.
Further investigation led police to learn that the child was left alone in the vehicle for at least 15 minutes. Officers were able to locate the driver of the vehicle on scene, identified as 40-year-old Ofelia Velasquez Berduo.
Velasquez Berduo was reportedly babysitting the child at the time of the incident. The child’s mother was contacted and the child was returned to her custody.
Velasquez Berduo was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and was released on her own recognizance.
