Local author brings eastern shore communities to life through children’s books
DELMARVA – We’re shedding light on one local author bringing to life communities across the shore through children’s books. Katherine Ruskey said she had a passion for storytelling since childhood and always knew she wanted to be a writer.
Back in 2018, she wrote her very first book and hasn’t looked back. She told 47ABC she’s now sent her books to 13 states, adding she feels good knowing her work is beings embraced by so many. “Thinking back on my first book in 2018, I’ve grown as an author. It’s really cool just to see how everything’s been received from the responses of people to the support from all the locals down in Ocean City,” Ruskey said.
She said she wants to make long lasting connections with families through her writing.
Many areas on the shore have helped get her creative juices flowing, being the inspiration for many of her books including The A B Sea’s of Ocean City and Marlin Week. “I feel like the experience of being able to see Maryland not only with our own eyes but seeing it in pictures and illustrations is great for people to be able to recognize them. They’re excited about living in such a great state and having the beautiful beach in Ocean City. You can’t go wrong with that,” she said.
Ruskey also told 47ABC she’s already looking into doing another Ocean City themed book. If you’d like to purchase a book, you reach out to her directly on social media and some titles are available on Amazon. Books are also available at the Ocean City Lifesaving Station.
She will also be at the OC-Tober festival in Ocean City this weekend with books on hand.
