Federal grant funding expands veteran services at Wor-Wic
SALISBURY, Md.- Wor-Wic Community College continues expanding services for veterans seeking a degree with federal funding. The money comes from the U.S Department of Education’s Veterans Upward Bound Program.
Within the first year, we’re told the program helped 125 veterans secure educational and disability benefits, provide one-on-one tutoring, and more.
The joint-service transcript option also allows them to transform their service into college credit. Program staff said most military students come in with up to a half semester already completed. They added that they’ve been able to build out their Veterans Military Association. “That’s a good organization or community here on campus that allows our veterans to come together and create a sense of camaraderie that they had in the military,” Wor-Wic VUB Coordinator Caleb Foltz said.
The funding is expected to be renewed for a 5-year cycle at around $1.5 million. On average, the school serves upwards of 300 veteran students yearly.
