Salisbury man charged with DUI following head-on crash
SALISBURY, Md. – A man has been charged following a head-on crash that left one seriously injured Tuesday evening.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Route 50 and Hobbs Road for several reports of a vehicle driving westbound in the eastbound lanes. While officers were en route to the scene they received a report of a head-on crash that had just taken place in the same area.
Further investigation revealed that 30-year-old Gelmer Navaro-Chavez was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes when he collided head on with another vehicle being driven by a 38-year-old man. When officers arrived at the scene, police found Chavez standing outside his vehicle, while the other driver was reportedly trapped in his vehicle. The driver was successfully extracted and flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
After being treated and released from TidalHealth, Chavez was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The other driver remains in critical but stable condition.
