1,000+ volunteers to take part in day of service with local church
SALISBURY, Md. – Sunday mornings for members of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church are usually spent inside attending services. But this weekend, their plans will be a little different.
This Sunday, more than 1,000 volunteers will be serving nearly 30 different organizations across Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset County. From planting gardens and painting rooms at homeless shelters, to writing inspirational messages for educators, the Peace 1 Day organization will give the congregation a chance to volunteer and be a part of the community.
“A lot of people have a heart to serve but her schedule sometimes don’t really allow us to do that. It’s great for us to say that missions matter right here and so for us to give back to the community and show them that love is really important to me and I think it’s really important to Oak Ridge to,” said program director Heather Smith.
