“We built this:” Adkins Farm Market up for sale, offers being accepted
SALISBURY, Md. – “Our DNA is here. It truly is. We built this. We built every little part of this. This is us,” Owner Tammy Adkins said.
Gaylon and Tammy Adkins started selling pumpkins just outside their home. Fast forward nearly two decades later, they’re the owners of their family farm market in Salisbury. “It really took off the first year and each year it’s increased. Now we’re having people come from all over the eastern shore,” Gaylon Adkins said.
The Adkins have been married 41 years and said farming is in their blood.
Whether you’re shopping for flowers in the spring, vegetables in the summer, or pumpkins and taking a trip to the corn maze in the fall, Adkins Farm Market has you covered.
Unfortunately, this fall could be their last as the farm is now for sale. “There’s a lot to do here and my family helps me a lot. If I didn’t have my family helping me, I wouldn’t be able to get all this set up,” Mr. Adkins said. “Mentally, we say we are good to go but our bodies are saying no you’re not. It’s telling us that it’s time. People tell us you’ll know when it’s time and it’s time,” Mrs. Adkins said.
With the extra time on their hands, Mrs. Adkins said they’ll be able to keep up with their growing family. “I’ll be honest, I’m awfully jealous when I see grandma come in here with her babies and having fun and I can’t play with mine. It’s been 18 years that we’ve been here, and I want to take my grandbabies somewhere to play in a corn maze,” she said.
Mrs. Adkins also told us she looks forward to seeing what the new owners do with the space as the possibilities are endless. “They could put a kitchen in here and sell food. They could even have weddings here. There are all kinds of opportunities.”
The Adkins described the past 18 years at the farm as magical, being able to create lasting memories with customers. Their hope is that their family legacy will also live on. “Hopefully whoever buys it will continue on with it so that people can still have their happy memories here and continue what we built,” Mrs. Adkins said.
The Adkins aren’t walking away from the farm market completely. They told 47ABC they’re open to volunteering their time to help out as needed once the new owners take over.
