Folk Fest Canceled Saturday due to weather

SALISBURY, Md. – When officials said the Folk Fest was going to happen rain or shine, that didn’t include a tropical storm.

Ophelia is raining on Salisbury’s parade, forcing officials to cancel Saturday’s event and instead resume tomorrow.

Vanessa Junkin with the city of Salisbury said for everybody’s safety, event organizers have been closely monitoring the weather. They decided early Saturday morning that it would be best to not meet on the Plaza today, and instead pick right back up tomorrow.

“Unfortunately, we did have to cancel the festival for today,” Junkin said. “We are still planning on going along with the schedule on Sunday, but unfortunately with the tropical storm conditions, the team was going to originally try to have the festival start at 3:00, but had to make the decision, just because of the weather conditions with high winds and rain. It’s rain or shine, but just with the storm, it’s a little bit more extreme.”
