Delaware man arrested for assaulting police officer

MAGNOLIA, Del. -A magnolia man is behind bars after police say he assaulted an officer and resisted arrest.
At approximately 8:55 a.m. Sunday, Delaware State Police were attempting to arrest 28 year-old Lionel Thompson who was wanted for a number of thefts.
When they arrived on scene at a house on Barkers Landing Road troopers found Thompson walking onto the porch.
They stopped him, he gave a fake name and attempted to escape.
That’s before an officer ordered him to put his hands behind his back, in which physical struggle ensued.
Thompson continued to resist by hitting the trooper and eventually escaped into the woods.
Police finally found him hiding in the attic of his home after they spotted him climbing a ladder into a second story window.
The officer and Thompson were both taken to nearby hospital where they were treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.
Thompson was charged and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $10,000 secured bond.
