Local fallen hero honored with renaming of post office

SALISBURY, Md. – A fallen hero continues to be recognized for his ultimate sacrifice, this time through a congressional action signed into law by President Donald Trump.

Thanks to House Resolution 4913, authored by eastern shore representative Andy Harris, the United States Post office located at 816 East Salisbury Parkway will be renamed, the Sergeant Major Wardell B. Turner Post Office Building.

The Nanticoke native and Bennett grad was killed in Afghanistan while on active duty.

“It’s humbling, I would say, humbling more than anything. I try to always have a humble spirit, that is the way that my husband was. And it humbles me that this community would come out and honor my husband almost five years later,” said Wardell’s widow, Katherine Turner.

Turner enlisted in 1993, served in Germany, South Korea, Bosnia and Iraq and earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other medals.
