Pocomoke City reaches partial settlement in federal lawsuit involving former police chief
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – A partial settlement has finally been reached in a federal lawsuit claiming race discrimination.
Former Pocomoke police chief Kelvin Sewell and Lieutenant Lynell Green have officially reached an agreement with the city, which will be overseen by a federal court that says the city of Pocomoke will have to change several things.
The city will have to reform race discrimination policies and procedures at the police department, as well as training for officers and leadership. The city will also have to provide a total of $650,000 in financial relief to both Sewell and Green for the mistreatment that they suffered.
One important thing to note in this case, though, is that the city has still not admitted any wrongdoing. This agreement however shows that the city is trying to change things and focus on the problem of racial discrimination.
This remains a partial settlement due to the fact that one of the plaintiffs, Detective Franklin Savage, has still not entered an agreement and his case remains unsolved.
