First State Community Action Agency holds EITC awareness day

Tanisha Showell speaks about the EITC

To help spread awareness for  National Earned Income Tax Credit  or EITC Awareness day, a press conference was held Friday at the First State Community Action Agency in Georgetown.

The EITC  is a refundable tax credit for low to moderate-income working individuals and couples, particularly those with children.

At the event speaker shared with the audience why the tax credit is so important and how it can help people better their lives.

One local woman shared how the credit has helped her and her family.

"A lot of the times the month was longer than the money, so when we received this earned income credit it kind of gave us a chance to breathe,  a chance to pay everything that we needed to pay and a chance to say to our kids you know lets just go out and do something," said Tanisha Showell, a mother of four.

Last year in Delaware 7,300 workers claimed it receiving an average credit of roughly $2,400.
