Milton celebrates end-of-summer with festival
MILTON, De. – The town of Milton held its annual end-of-summer festival, and Owner of Irish Eyes restaurant, Charlene Jones, said people from all across the U.S. came to celebrate the city.
“People come from all over,” Jones said. “We’ve had people from Oregon, Maine, Pennsylvania, Maryland and then, of course, our locals.”
Director Karen Falk said eventgoers gathered at Milton Memorial Park for the festival that had a lot to offer.
“This event means bringing everyone together for the end of the summer, to support the town businesses and also multiple organizations,” Falk said.
While the festival offers different excursions, Jones said the river race is the real star of the show.
“You don’t know what you’re missing. You have to come to experience it,” Falk said. “It’s a fun way to get our community together and enjoy our fun town.”
And the event gives entrepreneurs, like Rob Jennings, owner of Big Sussex, the opportunity to showcase his brand.
“Obviously I want to sell more stuff and have a bigger following and have people appreciate Sussex County, because I grew up here,” Jennings said.
While the festival was able to feature some colorful creatures and fluffy friends, Jones said the event is bigger than it seems.
“Our community knows that we’re here for them,” Jones said. “We do so many benefits that help the chamber, fire department, schools, you name it, we’ve got our name somewhere on it, helping our community.”
