Police seek public’s assistance in finding wanted suspect
Marydel, Md- On August 25, 2023, Officers from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, and Delaware State Police responded to a property in Marydel, Maryland in an attempt to locate a wanted suspect.
The suspect was identified as Todd Randall Hockensmith.
When police arrived at the property Hockensmith was observed running towards a passenger vehicle, which he entered and fled the scene.
Leading police on a vehicle chase through the northern portion of Caroline County.
Hockensmith was able to flee the vehicle on foot and entered a wooded area. As other units arrived a perimeter was set up and K9 units were called to assist along with aviation units.
After three hours of searching the area officers were unable to locate Hockensmith.
Through the investigation it was learned the vehicle Hockensmith was operating had been reported stolen.
The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to the property where this incident began, where a second vehicle was located and recovered that had also been reported stolen through the Denton Police Department.
During the investigation deputies also arrested a female associate of Hockensmith identified as Danyeal L. Shahan.
Shahan is being charged with Motor Vehicle Theft and other related charges.
Shahan was also wanted through the State of Delaware.
At this time criminal charges are pending for Hockensmith.
