Award named in Beau Biden’s honor to recognize law enforcement officers

The Anti-Defamation League announced earlier this month the establishment of the ADL Beau Biden SHIELD Award, an award that honors law enforcement in Delaware, eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.
ADL officials say the award highlights officers from local, state and federal departments who combat hate groups, extremism, terrorism and prevent hate crimes in the region.
The award is named in the late Joeseph R. "Beau" Biden III's honor, the former Attorney General for Delaware and son of former Vice President Joe Biden.
"Beau Biden was a champion for the most vulnerable," Philadelphia ADL Director Nancy K. Baron-Baer said. "The ADL Beau Biden SHIELD Award will recognize the brave officers in the region who have honored his memory though protecting those who cannot protect themselves."
"Beau was honored to work side by side with law enforcement officers to protect those most in need of help," Hallie Biden, Beau's widow, said. "We're honored that an organization as important to Beau as the ADL is recognizing the work these officers do every day."
ADL officials say the first Beau Biden SHIELD Award ceremony will be held on March 29th at the Chase Riverfront in Wilmington.
Jim Gardner, anchor for ABC affiliate WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event.
