Proposed project to strengthen service at Worcester County plant

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- Just over $1 million in proposed federal funding could help strengthen sewer service at the Riddle Farm Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The project is one of many a part of a bill sponsored by U.S Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin supporting water infrastructure development across Maryland.

The funds would install a new force main interconnect at the plant which will provide a back-up system in case of an emergency bypass.

Worcester County Public Works tells 47ABC this would help with the congestion and rising fuel costs they potentially face currently when plant services are offline. “Which is costly and inconvenient. The public doesn’t want to have to drive around large waste-hauling trucks. This is a much cleaner and simpler operation just to pump it from one location to another,” Director Dallas Baker said.

Once approved, The Public Works Department says construction on the project could take 6 months or less to complete.

The bill now sits in the U.S. Senate where it awaits consideration.
