High School Football Preview: Delmar Wildcats

DELMAR, Del.– Delmar always seems to be a contender in the Henlopen South. This Delmar team started off strong but faded down the stretch, and they are looking to build off of their playoff appearance.

Head coach Dave Hearn says this year’s squad will look familiar but will also have new faces that are completely new to the program.

“It’s a young team so we’ve had to go things slow- one step at a time- really the same thing you do every time but we have a lot of guys who are new to our program and then we’ve got some guys who are returners who have to be leaders and role models,” said coach Hearn.

Now the Wildcats have a tall task ahead of them- trying to fill the holes that last year’s seniors have left behind.

“You know we’ve lost a thousand-yard rusher and one of our best linemen in Derrick Fooks- Jalen Johnson our QB so it’s some key people- some key holes we gotta refill.”

With this year’s squad being full of young talent- the key to success is going to be how well they work together.

“That’s the key- can they work together- do all of them blend and get to everyone one of them can hurt the opponent.”

Lastly with the new season right around the corner- Coach Hearn had this to say about what people can expect from Delmar Football this year.

so if we can be a gang tackling- everybody gets to the ball and we’ve got a little bit of speed and if we can get some of those big plays- I think they’ll have some fun watching.
