Seaford Police Department hosting a Youth Police Academy

SEAFORD, Del. – Instead of hanging around the house for spring break, Seaford Police Department is offering teenagers in high school a pretty cool alternative: a five-day police academy.

We’re told at the academy, teens will work on things like mock scenarios to learn how police do traffic stops or search and seizures. They’ll even be able to do an air soft gun drill where they learn about use of force.

47 ABC spoke to the Police Department and they say this will not only be a great recruiting tool but also a way to build a bond with the community. Cpl. Frank Bradley says, “I believe this is going to prepare them for different things in life. I believe that always no matter what job or career or whatever you do, you are going to always be working with people and I feel that this here can build leaders.”

We’re told the academy will take place April 22nd-26th from 8:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon and is completely free. All you have to do is apply by April 1st.
