Cambridge Police investigating shooting, escape at hospital

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Cambridge Police are investigating a shooting incident that led to an escape at a hospital Tuesday evening.

Just after 5:30 p.m., officers were called to the Eastern Shore State Hospital Center for a reported shooting. While officers were enroute to the scene, they learned that the suspects may had fled in a black colored passenger vehicle.

Officers arrived at the scene and met with security officers, who reported that an unknown subject in a black vehicle approached the building and shot several times into a glass window. The subject then reportedly kicked the broken window out, which allowed a current patient of the hospital to escape with the subject in the vehicle.

There were no injuries reported at the scene.

The patient that escaped is identified as 19-year-old Darrin Jeter of Rockville, Maryland, who was committed at the hospital for assault on law enforcement officers. Jeter has been located in Montgomery County.
