13-year-old arrested on firearm, drug charges

DOVER, Del. – A Dover teen has been arrested following a firearm investigation Wednesday afternoon.

We’re told the Dover Police Drugs, Vice, and Organized Crime Unit was conducting a firearm investigation involving a 13-year-old. Officers made contact with the teen at around 1:40 p.m. in the unit block of South New Street, at which time he reportedly ran from officers. A brief foot pursuit ensued, but the teen was quickly taken into custody. Officers found a 9mm handgun and clothing items belonging to him in the path he ran, and he was found to be in possession of 1.2 grams of crack cocaine.

The 13-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, illegal gang participation, resisting arrest, and possession of crack cocaine. He was held at Stevenson House on a $26,000 cash bail.
