Local law enforcement officials provide tips to avoid porch pirates this Amazon Prime Day

DELMARVA – We’re now in the final hours of Amazon Prime Day. As you prepare to make your purchases and await your packages, local law enforcement officials want to make sure those packages actually make it to you.

Worcester County Sheriff Matt Crisafulli says most of these thefts are crimes of opportunity.

He adds most of those criminals have already scoped out the area, know when deliveries happen, and when someone usually gets home.

He has some tips for you to keep in mind to help avoid falling victim to porch pirates. “Remember, it’s about hardening the target. You do not want to be victimized. You want to minimize your chances of victimization and sometimes common sense has to come into play. Utilize neighbors, utilize video surveillance systems, and maybe have the driver put the package where it’s really not visible to the public as they’re driving by your residence,” Sheriff Crisafulli said.

Sheriff Crisafulli says to contact local law enforcement if you are the victim of theft.
