Unity Day celebration looks to connect community with local resources, support those in need
SEAFORD, Del.- Community Unite will host their first-ever Unity Day celebration this upcoming weekend.
Community Unite founder Michelle Applewhite-Smack says it’ll be your traditional community field day with food, games, bouncy houses, and more.
She tells us the goal is to connect the community with local resources. Several churches will also have free giveaways for the homeless population and anyone in need.
Applewhite, who’s experienced homelessness herself, tells 47ABC the event is a way of providing a helping hand. “I just wanted to give back because you just don’t know what people are experiencing. On that day, everyone is equal. We’re not just doing it for the homeless, we’re doing it for anyone in need. It gives them the opportunity to come out and not be embarrassed because they may be hungry, they’re kids may be hungry, or they may need clothes,” Applewhite-Smack said.
The event will be this Saturday, July 15th in the field behind Seaford City Hall starting at 10:00AM.
Donations are still being accepted at this time.
