UPDATE: DSP investigating fatal crash involving a pedestrian

LEWES, Del. – Delaware State Police say a crash involving a pedestrian and a Freightliner concrete pumper truck has claimed the life of one.

We’re told the accident happened shortly before 1 PM on Hazlett Road in the Governors development. While the truck was stopped, workers with another company began working in a sewer with an open manhole cover in the roadway, right behind the truck. One worker was in the sewer while another was standing at the top serving as a spotter, when the truck driver reportedly failed to see the spotter and began backing up, hitting the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, identified as 29-year-old Arturo Roblero-Velasquez was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending family notification.

The truck driver, a 43-year-old male from Lewes, was not injured in the incident.

The accident remains under investigation.
