Playground upgrades, Cpl. Keith Heacook memorial unveiled at State Street Park

DELMAR, Del. – In Delmar, town officials along with the community came together Sunday afternoon for the rededication of State Street Park.

Town officials tell us there was a need for upgrades as the old playground equipment was rusted and deemed unsafe.

The public got a first look at the new equipment, new grills, and the repainted pavilion.

A memorial and bench were also unveiled in honor of Cpl. Keith Heacook.

We spoke with Mayor Ben Jorden who calls both initiatives a new chapter for Delmar.  “The memorial was a way that the town could have something permanently here for years to come that represents what Keith did for each and every one of us,” Mayor Jorden said. “For us as a town, we want to be able to provide a good quality location that people can enjoy whether they want to cook, play, or whatever else they want to do.”

Town officials say the upgrades were made possible thanks to Maryland, Delaware, and funding received from Delaware Representative Tim Dukes.

Safety measures have also been increased for the park which include new lighting and security cameras that will be monitored by police.
