Area school districts prepare for teacher recruitment fair

OCEAN VIEW, Del. –  All 19 school districts in Delaware, and seven on the eastern shore of Maryland, will be taking part in an annual teacher’s fair next month in Ocean City.

The fair takes place February 23 from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Clarion Hotel.

We spoke with the Indian River District superintendent Wednesday night who said they will be in need of bilingual, math, stem and special ed teachers, as well as school psychologists.

“This has been one of our biggest areas to grab, particularly local, kids from the Delmarva area, the entire area. So it’s been very, very helpful for us in the past,” said Superintendent Mark Steele.

Steele says they look to hire between 90 and 120 teachers every year because of retirements and keeping up with growth in the district.
