Bun Run 5k returns supporting Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue
SALISBURY, Md.- More than 40 runners laced up their sneakers for a good cause Saturday, heading out to Salisbury City Park for the 3rd annual Bun Run 5k.
The non-profit Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center spearheaded the event. Their goal was to provide education on how to properly care for bunnies and raise funds for veterinary expenses.
Last year the non-profit spent more $15,000 in medical expenses for those fur babies.
They tell 47ABC events like this help them to continue providing bunnies with the proper care. “Rabbits are considered exotic animals so they need to see special vets. Alot of grants that are available are only for cats and dogs, so we do events like this to raise money because a lot of times we don’t have options of getting the funds other places,” ESRR’s Kelly Stottlemyer said.
“I love to support any organization that helps animals or people. I thank everyone for being here, doing this race, and for supporting and caring for bunnies,” 5k Winner Maria Miller said.
The non-profit raised over $3,000 at last year’s event.
