Community rallies together to help local Coast Guard employees

MILFORD, Del. –  A group of businesses and organizations spearheaded by Delaware Surf Fishing have teamed up to help the local Coast Guard station.

They’re doing a gift card drive that they will be giving to those currently working without pay the Indian River station.

It’s just a small way community members have come together to do what they can to offset some of the financial burdens the coast guard is facing right now.

“Most people live pay check to pay check and you’re landlord doesn’t care if you’re not getting paid this month, you know, hopefully that they’re in a better situation than that but it feels good to be able to help any way we can obviously you always wish you could do more,” explains Marissa Cordell, owner of Easy Speak Spirits.

The Crooked Hammock Brewery and Easy Speak Distillery are two locations that are accepting gift cards for the Indian River station Coast Guard.

You can drop them off until 8 p.m. Thursday and then they will be delivered to the Coast Guard employees Friday morning, but keep in mind that gift card Amounts can not be over $20 because of the federal law on gifts.
