Ferrara makes Tewaaraton watch list for third-straight season
SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University graduate attacker Cross Ferrara was announced on Friday as a selection to the 2023 Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
It is the third consecutive year that Ferrara landed on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. He was the only Division III player and one of two non-Division I student-athletes announced to the list.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
“These student-athletes represent the very best at the collegiate level and have honored the Creator’s game with their past play,” said Andy Phillips, president of the Tewaaraton Foundation. “We look forward to watching them achieve new heights this season for both themselves and their teammates.”
Ferrara continues his career in 2023 as one of the standout players across all NCAA Divisions. Ferrara is a two-time United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) National Attackman of the Year, 2021 USILA Iroquois National Outstanding Player of the Year, a two-time Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Player of the Year and a three-time all-conference selection with a pair of All-C2C First Team honors in 2021 and 2022.
The Middletown, Del. and Appoquinimink High School product already holds the SU career goals record with 281 goals and sits third in program history with 360 career points. This season, Ferrara is chasing the Division III goals and points record. He currently sits 91 points and 19 goals from the top spot in both career categories.
Watch List additions will be announced on March 7 and March 28, before the field will be narrowed to 25 men’s and 25 women’s nominees on April 18. Nominees can be players from the Watch Lists or not from the Watch Lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions.
Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be announced in early May. The Tewaaraton Award recipients will be chosen after the conclusion of the collegiate lacrosse season.
After a dominant 20-6 win in its season opener against Berry on Feb. 5, second-ranked Salisbury opens its home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 11 against the 19th-ranked Roanoke Maroons. The game is part of a doubleheader with the SU women. Opening faceoff is scheduled to take place at 2:30 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
