Two suspects arrested in attempted armed robbery incident

SALISBURY, Md. – Maryland State Police say two men are in custody after they allegedly tried to stab a man over a cigarette.

Just before 9 AM Wednesday, troopers on patrol in the area of Route 13 near the Days Inn motel were flagged down by a male victim who reported that two men tried to stab him for a cigarette before fleeing on foot towards the America’s Best Value Inn motel. He also told police that the suspects chased him with knives and threatened to kill him, and that he was only able to get away after one of the suspects fell down, allowing him to out run them.

A short time later, troopers located both suspects behind the America’s Best Value Inn, along with two knives matching the victim’s description and four syringes of heroin.

The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Scott Chavis and 30-year-old Alejandro Char, were each charged with attempted robbery, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, first degree assault, second degree assault, carrying/wearing concealed weapon, reckless endangerment, possession CDS paraphernalia, and possession CDS (heroin).
