How to prevent your gas lines from freezing

SALISBURY, Md. – In cold temperatures, gas lines in your car can freeze if you don’t take the proper precautions.

There are several things you can do to prevent your gas lines from freezing, such as keeping your car in a heated garage over night. Since that’s not an option for most, you can instead put an additive into your fuel to help stabilize it for lower temperatures.

Overall though, the best thing you can do is fill up your tank.

Allen Kress, the Service Manager at Delaware Tire in Salisbury said, “The biggest thing you can do to prevent any moisture from getting in the fuel and freezing is to make sure you have a full tank of gas. When there is space in the tank, it allows air to get in which condensates and then it gets in your fuel, so a full tank of gas definitely will help out with that.”

If your gas lines do freeze, it can damage your car by making your fuel lines to split, which can cause fuel leaks.
