MSP investigate fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Pittsville

PITTSVILLE, Md.–Maryland State Police say a woman is dead after being struck by a car while standing at her mailbox.

We are told it happened just before 1:30 PM Sunday afternoon along Gumboro Road and Tingle Road in Pittsville.

Maryland State Police say that 60-year old Anthony Mumford was traveling northbound along Gumboro Road when for unknown reasons crossed over into the southbound lanes. Mumford’s car then struck 56-year old Barbara Parker who was standing at her mailbox before coming to a stop in a ditch.

A passerby helped Mumford and his passenger, 68-year old Mary Mumford, out of their car and then began to perform CPR on Parker.

The 56-year old woman was taken to PRMC in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries.

Charges are pending and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
