POLICE: Pittsville woman fatally hit by car while checking mail

Pittsville, MD – Maryland State Police are investigating after they say a car crossed over a median in Pittsville on Sunday, and hit a woman standing at her mailbox.

It happened just before 1:30 pm Sunday at Gumboro Road and Tingle Road in Pittsville.

Police say their investigation determined the driver of a 2012 white Chevrolet Malibu, Anthony Wayne Mumford of Millsboro, crossed over the median for an unknown reason, striking Barbara Catherine Parker while she was standing at her mailbox.

The crash caused the car to go into a ditch.

Police say Pittsville Fire Company took Parker to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries shortly after the crash.

Sadly, police say Parker died as a result of her injuries about 30 minutes after the accident.
