More than a dozen unsecured cars targeted by thieves near Smyrna

Delaware State Police are warning residents of an increasing number of stolen items from vehicles in the Smyrna area over the past few weeks.
Police say more than a dozen locations south of Smyrna, particularly in the Sunnyside Road and Sheridan Lane areas, have been targeted by thieves looking for unsecured cars.
Items stolen include cash, purses and electronic devices. Police say nearly all cars targeted were parked in the victims' driveways and were not locked.
DSP recommends that people always lock their vehicles and keep windows rolled up. They also urge residents not to leave valuable items inside their cars when leaving a vehicle unattended.
Police say that outdoor lighting and security lighting can also deter thieves.
Anyone with information on this recent series of car break-ins is encouraged to call Detective R. Wright at 302-698-8429 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
