Davis earns regional honors
SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University field hockey senior forward/midfielder Allie Davis was named the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Region VI Player of the Year on Wednesday.
Davis becomes the first Salisbury player to be named NFHCA Regional Player of the Year since Kandice Hancock earned the honor after the 2010 season.
Davis led the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) in goals and points with 19 goals and 43 points. Davis scored in 15 of Salisbury’s 19 games in 2022, including three games with two or more goals.
Nationally, Davis finished the 2022 season tied for 20th in goals per game (1.00) and 32nd in points per game (2.26).
The Wilmington, Del. native continues to add to the list of awards in the 2022 season. Davis was named the C2C Player of the Year following the regular season and was selected to the All-C2C and NFHCA All-Region First Teams. She was also recognized as the C2C Player of the Week a league-high three times in 2022.
The NFHCA Division III Regional Player of the Year announcement is the second in a list of postseason awards from the NFHCA. Last week the 2022 NFHCA Division III All-Region teams were announced with a program-record seven Sea Gulls named to the All-Region team. The Division III All-American teams will be announced on December 13 and the NFHCA National Player of the Year on December 15.
The Sea Gulls finished the 2022 season with an 18-1 record and won the C2C Championship for the second consecutive year. Salisbury made its 28th consecutive and 37th overall NCAA Division III National Tournament appearance in 2022. The 28-straight bids are the longest active streak in the NCAA.
