UPDATE: Del. man facing more charges in death of one-year-old child

1/7 UPDATE: Dover Police have charged Edjuan Blackshear with murder by abuse or neglect 1st degree in the death of a one-year-old that was in his care.

He was arraigned on the new charge and was issued an additional $101,000 cash bond.


DOVER, Del. – Dover Police say a man has been charged after a child that had been in his custody died early Thursday morning.

Officials were called to respond to an apartment in the 800 block of Woodcrest Drive for a report of a one-year-old child not breathing. The child was quickly taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital by medical personnel and was later transferred to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital.

Police discovered through investigation that the child had suffered multiple injuries to the head and torso, as well as internal injuries. The child passed away as a result of his injuries shortly after midnight.

According to police, 28-year-old Edjuan Blackshear was responsible for the child’s care at the time of the incident. Blackshear was subsequently taken into custody and charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Blackshear is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $101,000 cash bond. Additional charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation.
