Weather Tidbits: Average First Snowfall
This Weather Tidbits shows when the 1st snowfall occurs nationwide on average. The 1st recipients of snow are typically in the northern & central Rockies; along with the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Arrowhead of Minnesota in October. Early November is normal for the northern Plains, the Thumb of Michigan; along with northern New England, northern New York & northwestern Pennsylvania as the lake effect snow machine cranks up there. Late November first snowfall focuses over eastern Washington & Oregon; along with most of Iowa and southern dips to northern New Mexico & West Virginia. Most of New Mexico, northern Missouri, even as south of North Carolina & southern New England see snow on average by early December. The 1st snow reaches the Mexican border over west Texas & New Mexico along with Delmarva & the Ozarks by late December.
The new year begins with the average 1st snow in January or February for most of the Mid-South including Atlanta, Memphis and near Las Vegas. The rarity of snow is common for most of Louisiana, Los Angeles and Phoenix; while very rare is all of Florida, extreme south Texas, along with San Diego and San Francisco.
