Man pulled from Chesapeake Bay after kayak overturns

(AP) – The U.S. Coast Guard says rescuers pulled an unconscious man from the Chesapeake Bay after his kayak overturned.

Petty Officer Corrine Zilnicki said by phone Wednesday that a Coast Guard helicopter spotted the man about 11 a.m. off the coast of Cape Charles. A Coast Guard boat then picked him up.

Zilnicki says the man was unconscious when he was turned over to local emergency crews around 11:20 a.m. and taken to a nearby hospital.

She says the man was one of two kayakers in separate vessels. His kayak overturned about 9:20 a.m. The second kayaker helped search.
