Salisbury man convicted of attempted murder
SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man has been convicted of first degree murder in a November 2021 incident.
On November 20, 2021, Salisbury Police officers were called to the area of Williams Landing for a report of shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and located one shooting victim, who was promptly taken to TidalHealth for treatment and surgery after being hit by three bullets. Further investigation revealed that a group of four men, including 20-year-old Mohammed Tarer, arrived at the location uninvited and tried to gain access to a party. Once they were turned away, they began fighting with those at the party.
In an attempt to stop the fight, the victim intervened, at which point Tarer pulled a gun from his waistband and fired multiple times, hitting the victim and one other person who was with the suspect. Detectives were able to utilize surveillance footage from the area and multiple social media accounts, which helped police identify Tarer as the shooting. Tarer was arrested on November 22, 2021.
Last week, Tarer pleaded guilty to one count of attempted first degree murder and one count of possession of a regulated firearm under 21. He was sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison with all but 20 years suspended.
