Woman in serious condition following hit-and-run, police explain how they located the vehicle

BERLIN, Md. – A woman is in serious condition, following a hit-and-run Thursday night in Berlin.

59-year-old Terri Wattay was walking her dog in the 11000 block of Grays Corner Road, when she was hit.

Maryland State Police tell 47ABC, they have located the driver and the vehicle but there have been no arrests.

The area that police found Wattay,  is about a mile from where 14-year-old Gavin Knupp was hit in July of this year.

That would mark two hit-and-runs in the same area, just a few months apart.

“Our investigators and troopers who were on the scene, were able to pull the evidence that was left behind after this woman was struck and match it to a vehicle that was not too far away from the crime scene. So once they were able to contact the people who lived in that home where the vehicle was parked, the driver introduced himself to police and admitted he had swerved out of the way to miss a dog,” said Elena Russo, Maryland State Police Spokesperson.

The driver was identified as 62-year-old Russell Kimball, who lived nearby.

Charges could come once investigators finish collecting information and can present it to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
