Wicomico County Fair makes big return, features new exhibits/learning opportunities
SALISBURY, Md. – From arts and crafts to livestock exhibits, this year’s Wicomico County Fair made it’s return to Winter Place Park in Salisbury with something for the whole family to enjoy.
Organizers say it feels good to get back in the swing of tradition. “We have more entries and people registered than we did last year and we’re back up to those pre-pandemic numbers in just 12 short months,” Wicomico County Fair Chair Zach Evans said.
“It really does take a community to be able to deliver this product and make it as great as it is.”
Saturday’s lineup didn’t stop there, as a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for Wicomico Public Libraries new Mobile Learning Lab.
The tech center on wheels has both a STEM and computer lab to help with job searches and provide trainings. “The library for a long time has been really trying to do more than just be a place where people come and get books,” Wicomico Public Libraries Executive Director Seth Hershberger said.
“We also don’t want them to have to come to the library, especially if they live far from the branch. We want to be able to take those resources and programs to them. That’s what this represents.”
Another new activity this year was the Kindred Spirit Farm, where kids could learn things like how to lasso. “So it’s that moment where the little ones are already dreaming that this could be them someday. I think that’s the most important part and what we all get excited about is just that opportunity for everybody,” Kinder Spirts Farm Owner Kelly Howard said.
Those we spoke with say the event takes all hands on deck to make it a success, including hundreds of volunteers. Yet, they say the smiling faces are what matters most. “That Aha moment when they see something for the first time or learning something for the first time. It makes all the hard work worth it,” Evan said.
Organizers tell us they had over 5,000 visitors come out to the fair so far and expect that same momentum throughout the rest of the weekend.
