Seaford logistics business gets a visit from Rep. Blunt Rochester to talk supply chain issues
SEAFORD, Del.- Supply chain issues continue to hit businesses. One company seeing the issues firsthand is Trinity Logistics in Seaford. They’re a third party logistics business arranging freight with the shippers and carriers.
“So, where we felt the strain is where there was really not enough equipment to get all of that freight moved to the demand in the market place; so we have to work extra hard with our carriers,” Sarah Ruffcorn, President of Trinity Logistics, said.
Ruffcorn said that increase in demand for goods led them to look at their operation differently.
“We had to look really closely at the networks who could pick up what products when,” Ruffcorn said. “We had to introduce a lot of new draig companies into the mix to be able to increase capacity in certain areas.”
While those creative ways have been a plus, supply chain issues still linger. Something that Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester discussed with them Wednesday.
“The challenges have slowed down a little, but there’s still some challenges that are out there,” Ruffcorn said.
“Hearing specifically from these companies we get a chance to know what do we need to be doing about it and we also get a chance to find out what are the best practices and things they have been able to do to help other companies and to keep our economy strong,” Rep. Blunt Rochester said.
She also discussed infrastructure legislation and the work lawmakers have done in partnership with over 150 different organizations to fight supply issues on a national scale.
“To come up with bipartisan legislation, to focus on an office of supply chain resiliency in the Department of Commerce, but also to have loans and grants to incentivize companies to make things in America,”
While they continue to solve these hurdles, Trinity Logistics is welcoming any support they can get. “We really do need investment on our infrastructure here in the United States so whatever to help improve the ports, improve the rail, that’s just going to help everything,” Ruffcorn said.
Representative Blunt Rochester said recently she voted for the CHIPS and Science Act, which President Biden signed into law on August 9, that includes $52 billion in funding to expand domestic chip manufacturing.
