Police: Crash claims the life of 17-year-old in Accomack Co.

ACCOMACK CO., Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a teen Monday evening.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., state police responded to the area of Mount Nebo Road, north of Dingleys Mill Road, for a reported crash. We’re told the driver and sole occupant of a 2006 Ford Mustang, identified as 17-year-old Joshua Vasquez, was traveling northbound on Mount Nebo Road at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate the turn and ran off the roadway.

Police say Vasquez hit a tree and died on impact. He was reportedly not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, and it is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor. Notification to family members and next of kin have been made.
