Talbot Co. Sheriff warning public of bail scam

TALBOT CO., Md. – The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of an old scam with a new twist.

We’re told citizens are receiving phone calls stating that a loved one, usually a grandchild, is facing criminal charges and is in need of bail money. The caller tells the citizen to obtain cash and tells the citizen that a bail bondsman will come by their residence to pick up the cash. At an agreed upon time, the individual described by the caller shows up at the residence to take the cash. Sometimes another call follows, where the caller informs the citizen that the bond has gone up and the citizen needs to obtain more cash.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who is contacted in this manner to call the Sheriff’s Office before giving the caller any cash or personal information.
