Diabetes Wellness Expo promotes diabetes awareness, wellness education

HARRINGTON, Del. – The Delaware Diabetes Coalition is hosting its 20th annual Diabetes Wellness Expo in person for the first time since 2019.

The free event brings together healthcare providers, vendors, and more to promote diabetes awareness and overall wellness education. Organizers say there was an increase in diabetes cases in Delaware due to the pandemic as many people weren’t getting tested regularly. We’re told participants will also receive information concerning pre-diabetes and the importance of getting your A1C checked.

“The A1C is your average blood sugar over a three-month period, so if your A1C is high then you’d get into that prediabetes or even that diabetes stage,” Delaware Diabetes Coalition Director Sara Bluhm said. “Monitoring that on a regular basis and talking to your doctor or health care provider is what you should be doing as a patient to care for yourself.”

That event will take place Tuesday, May 10th at the Delaware State Fairgrounds.
